I LOOOVVVEEE this time of year, mainly because I get to add EVEN MORE colour to our home! 🙂
When it comes to the festive season, I’m not a traditional kinda gal and pretty much avoid the Christmas reds and emerald greens. I stick with my signature palette of bright pinks, zesty yellows, bold oranges, pastel lilacs and vibrants greens. For me, it’s all about creating joy-inducing décor and I don’t hold back…!
DIY it!
Christmas is all about injecting joy, and there is no better way of doing this than adding your own handmade décor! This year I made my own placemats using wool felt fabric. I created two wavy card templates, placed these onto some felt fabric and traced around (make sure you back your base fabric), cut out my pieces, pinned together, then stitched around on the sewing machine.
Pom-poms make everything better, especially at Christmas time! I made some little bright pink ones for our table, these will give your festive table a fun party look! I highly recommend buying some pom-pom makers – these are amazing little devices and I assure you once you make one, you’ll be obsessed!
These cardboard stars are super easy to make and a great way of adding some more pops of colour to your tablescape! All you need to do is cut out two cardboard stars (you can use left over xmas gift packaging), cut inserts through the top of one, and the bottom of the other, attach some felt fabric to both sides using craft glue, leave to dry, then insert into one another…..and voila!!
The extra details!
As well as DIY-ing some of my table decor, I also love to source super colourful and unique festive decorations from my favourite online stores. Here are some of the gorgeous products I have used to create my tablescape this year:
1. Fairy lights: These are a key ingredient to festive styling – they will make all of your colours shine, and they create the most wonderful ambience!Â
2. Paper honeycomb pom-poms: These are always my go-to when it comes to styling. They are a super easy, fun (and cheap!) way of accessorising at Christmas time and will be sure to add lots more fun and vibrancy to your festive schemes! I highly reccommend spending a little more and buying some Ginger Ray paper balls,. They are really robust and great quality (I love how they velcro together!), they can be stored away easily and will last a few good years!
3. Colourful candles and holders: I’m obsessed with these, and have them out all year round. They really compliment a tablescape, especially at Christmas time. If you match them to your dinnerware, they can make your tablescape more cohesive. I LOVE these ones from talking tables.  These come in all different shapes, sizes and colours, their twirly candles are my fav’s!
4. Dried flowers: A great alternative to a traditional Christmas centrepiece, Dried flowers are prefect for creating modern home décor. We have them all over our home! This beautiful bunch from Happy Blossoms is just so joyful – these will bring lots of texture and vibrancy to your tablescape and make it that extra bit more special, especially if you pop them in a colourful stripey vase!
5. Crackers : These are a must have at Christmas time! I am always on the look out for crackers that are a bit unique and quirky, so I was delighted when I came across these re-usable ones by Dunelm. Printed on cotton with festive designs, these unique sustainable crackers are ideal for adding a personal touch to your tablescape!Â
